Where
to Stay
From Easter
to the end of October, there is a variety of
holiday accommodation available on St. Agnes - guest
houses, self-catering flats and cottages, bed and
breakfasts, and a campsite with a wide range of
amenities and gorgeous views of the sunset over the
Western Rocks and the Bishop Rock Lighthouse.
The unspoilt
nature of St. Agnes is partly due to its being
the only one of the Isles of Scilly not to have an hotel.
Every let or guest house is part of a small family run
business, and the level of facilities offered varies across
the island - one may be a favourite with visitors for its mod
cons, another for its sea views or collection of books and
games for rainy days. However, all the accommodation is
clean and comfortable, welcoming and reasonably
priced.
One important
factor shared by all guest accommodation
is a limited supply of water. There is no mains water
system on the island, so we all pump from a scattering of
wells and boreholes and collect rain water. During a dry
year supplies can run short, and in recognition of this we
ask our guests to help us conserve this precious
resource.
The guest
houses all offer home cooking with fresh island
ingredients - local fish, shellfish, new potatoes and dairy
produce - while for those who are cooking for themselves,
the well-stocked
Post Office and General Store can
prepare a food order to welcome visitors on arrival. It has
a good wine selection too! Covean cafe and Coastguards cafe offer lunches
as well as the essential cream tea, while the Turk's Head pub is open
throughout the season for lunch, evening meals, real ale, and an amazing
view.
